Gusset

Skip first 17 (18, 19, 19, 21) sts of round; join yarn in next st.

Row 1 Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 7 (7, 7, 9, 9) sts.

Rows 2–6 (6, 8, 8, 10) Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.

Fasten off. Sew last row of the gusset to opposite side of back of pants, making sure leg openings are equal. Each leg opening should have 34 (36, 38, 38, 42) unworked sts.

Legs

With RS facing, join yarn in leg opening at inseam (inside edge of leg opening).

Round 1 Work 40 (42, 46, 46, 52) sc evenly spaced around leg opening—40 (42, 46, 46, 52) sc.

Round 2 Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.

Repeat Round 2 until leg measures 6½ (7½, 8½, 11, 12)" (16.5 [19, 21.5, 28, 30.5]cm) or 1½" (3.8cm) less than desired leg length. Fasten off.

Repeat for second leg.
